Emos, Make Some Noise!

By now, you must have seen numerous articles, tweets, and posts about the much anticipated reunion of the famous band My Chemical Romance. And if you have been living under a rock, well, now you know.

If you don't know who they are: 1) Seriously? You really have been living under a rock, haven't you? 2) They're only the greatest band to have ever existed. And if you knew who they were, then you would have certainly agreed.

My Chemical Romance, or MCR for short, is a rock band consisting of Gerard Way (who wrote and created the comicbooks of famous Netflix show Umbrella Academy (keep an eye out on a future article on this!)), Frank Iero (The lead in the punk band Frank Iero and the Future Violents), Ray Toro (who's mostly been contributing to bands like Reggie and the Full Effect), and Mikey Way (Gerard's younger brother and the multi-instrumentalist in Electric Century). They're considered as one of the three "Emo Trinity" bands, alongside Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy, so I believe it's fair to say that they have A LOT of fans worldwide and make great music. The band was formed in 2001, after the tragic event of 9/11, and rocked on until 2013 when they officially broke up, because they felt like they had said everything they needed to and were no longer needed.

Everyone was miserable when the band members parted ways, but the fans still got a taste of each band member as they still continued to make art and music, albeit separately. On the 23rd of September in 2016, the tenth anniversary of their album The Black Parade, after years of inactivity, their official Youtube channel uploaded a large number of videos, including unreleased demos of that album. Everyone was confused and went wild. The Youtube channel went back into the darkness, so to speak, and nothing was heard of the band again, until just recently, when they suddenly announced that they will be having a reunion show on the 20th of December at The Shrine in Los Angeles.  As you could imagine, the fans went wild again and were confused as ever. They still keep posting cryptic images on their Instagram and Twitter and have new merchandise, which all suggests that they may be having another performance or have a new album coming out, or both.

Whatever the news is or will be, we ended 2019 with MCR and started the decade with them. And 2019 was amazing for emos for multiple reasons: We got the show The Umbrella Academy. Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Weezer, The Killers, and My Chemical Romance are all active at the same time for the first time in years and are some of the most popular and successful musical acts of all time.

So "Killjoys", "Victims", "Skeleton Cliques", "Youngbloods", "Idiots", "Blondes", "Sinners", whoever you may be, make some noise because 2020 is your year and emo is officially back!
