the world is ending

By Lisa Porter

The world is ending

and I am staring at my feet

I hear the sound of crying

and the hopelessness of the streets

The world is ending

and I am scrolling through my phone

bombarded with the many crises' on Earth

and still fighting that feeling of being alone

The world is ending

and I am passing by a shop

For a minute I think about those jeans

how good I would look in that top

The world is ending

and the sun is going down

I walked a few miles from my work

the cold frigid air following me all over town

The world is ending

and I am fighting back tears

ones that are both happy and sad

because of a good memory and that ever-present fear

The world is ending

and I am almost home

just over the hill to the left

then past the huge garden dome

The world is ending

but I have so much left

even though my optimism has departed

and the unjust in the world has left me bereft

The world is ending

and I can't wait to go to sleep

tomorrow is my weekend

and I am going to the beach

The world is ending

but I still have plans

I'm going to go back to school

travel the earth

make as much money as I can

The world is ending

but I still have things to do

groceries and bills payments for next week

along with a party or two

The world is ending

and I have accepted my fate

doesn't mean I can't be happy

doesn't mean I resort to hate

The world is ending
